I would say depression definitely plays a prevalent role in Aspergers. People with autism have anywhere from low to high IQs, so you can definitely have autism and low IQ. Plenty of people with good jobs and families of their own have lower than normal IQs. I may be wrong but I think I remember reading that an IQ of 75-80+ or so can expect to lead a pretty normal life.
